Friday's Finds : Silver Watch Fobs

The latest additions to My Etsy shop have sent me in search of hallmarks I'd never identified before, and I'm happy to report that I've learnt something new and interesting this week.

I'd recently acquired this silver fobs, which are usually hung from pocket watch chains. They're often inscribed with the initials of who it's been awarded to and/or the date they achieved it.

This was awarded to D. Nash in 1938 and is hallmarked with the [anchor][lion][G] which I understand to be Birmingham 1931.

I've yet to know what the (J.W.T) next to the hallmark stands for or even what the medal/fob has been awarded for...

This next one has the hallmark [Anchor][Lion][A] and (WHH) which means it's British silver - Birmingham 1925 and was designed by William Hair Haseler.  It was awarded in 1930.

This little gem is sterling silver and is stamped J & R.G which stands for the brothers Joseph and Richard Griffin.  This would have been designed in their silver-maker's workshop in England. It's engraved with the letter H... possibly.

This final piece is Scottish silver - note the [thistle] and [castle] hallmark.  There's also a letter [P] there, which gives us the date - 1896. This is my favourite - the detailed engraving around its edge is perfect.
